Automate, save time, and scale with Shopify for B2B

A wide range of brands in industries from fashion and beauty to food and electronics are already using Shopify's B2B solution. And for good reason.

Shopify has long been known as a leader in B2C commerce. And when those features and presentations are combined with Shopify's B2B suite, you get a powerful platform for your B2B business.

With Shopifys B2B suite,  you get all the best features we know from a B2C Shopify shop. All relevant functionalities are already integrated into the admin, and you can dive straight into advanced customization of themes, prices, payments, and much more.

Instead of using other third-party systems, apps, or even manual processes via Excel spreadsheets, with Shopify, you have an ideal B2B sales channel with the possibility of integrating with existing systems. And at the same time, you have the choice between a single online store that encompasses your entire business if you operate both B2C and B2B, or a dedicated B2B shop separate from your potential B2C shop.

Regardless of which solution you choose to use, you will experience a B2B shop with the ability to offer customer-specific pricing and catalogs, payment terms, currencies, and much more, which each B2B customer can access through a personalized customer profile login.

In the customer profile, your B2B customers will experience:

  • Self-service solutions
  • Customer-specific price lists
  • Customer-specific catalogs
  • Customer-specific discounts Customer-specific payment terms
  • Addition of purchase order numbers (PO) to B2B orders and any drafts thereof

A customer profile can represent multiple B2B customers working for the same company. Each company can determine who has access to the different B2B features.

Each customer profile can also be linked to multiple locations, so you may find that processes that used to be manual are now automated, saving your time, money, and general resources.

All of this is managed from the profile you create in your Shopify admin.

And of course, the entire setup happens without the need for complex solutions or additional coding.

Should you choose a blended or dedicated B2B Shopify store?

Before creating a B2B Shopify shop, you need to consider whether you want to open a blended or dedicated store.

A blended store refers to a shop used by both B2C and B2B customers. Several functionalities will be the same, including the user interface.

With a dedicated shop, on the other hand, you create a dedicated B2B wholesale shop that can have a different theme to clearly differentiate it from a traditional B2C shop.

Blended shop

A blended or mixed Shopify shop accepts both B2B and B2C customers. This means that B2B customers need to log in to their personal account to access B2B features, including catalogs, prices, etc.

The advantage is that you gather all your business data in one place, and you can easily manage your store settings because you don't have to distinguish between B2C and B2B business.

The following applies to blended shops:

  • By default, B2B customers cannot use discount codes, but if you enable discount codes in a blended shop, both B2B and B2C customers can use the same discount codes.
  • By default, B2B customers cannot use gift cards, but if you enable gift cards in a blended shop, both B2B and B2C customers can use the same gift cards.
  • Changes made in the theme editor apply to both B2C and B2B shops. If you want to make changes that only affect the B2B part, they need to be made in the theme's code.
  • Most analytics will combine results from the B2C and B2B shops. Only in specific sales reports will it be possible to separate the two areas.
  • Settings related to abandoned carts, inventory systems, shipping, etc., will be the same for both B2C and B2B.
  • Shipping rules will generally be shared between both segments.

If you need different settings, consider opening a dedicated shop for your B2B customers.

Dedicated shop

A dedicated store is created exclusively for your B2B customers, allowing you to use settings specific to your B2B wholesale business without the need for coding.

You can make changes to:

  • Discount codes
  • Theme
  • Reports
  • Notifications, such as emails
  • Inventory systems
  • Prices
  • Shipping
  • Customer profiles
  • And much more...

When using a dedicated shop for your B2B setup, you can also segment inventory and shipping data. However, this requires creating a new store, setting up the integration you may already have with your existing B2C stores, and managing your dedicated store settings separately.

Shopify B2B for the international market

Shopify B2B is a platform designed to facilitate online commerce, whether you are operating nationally or venturing into international markets with Shopify Markets. Shopify Markets reduces the complexity typically associated with selling goods across borders, allowing you to expand your Shopify shop to the global market from a single store.

Therefore, Shopify Markets can be a great option when you aim to internationalize your online B2B business.

Some of the key features include:

  • Managing multiple markets from a single centralized backend.
  • International domains that include language and currency specific to each locality.
  • Local currencies and pricing evaluated based on current market rates.
  • Translation through the integrated language translator.
  • Estimates for additional costs, such as customs, fees, and shipping.
  • Streamlined checkout flow offering local payment solutions and Google Autocomplete.

Shopify B2B ecommerce can facilitate your international trade, enabling you to scale your business and benefit from advantages available in other markets. You can reach new target audiences and explore opportunities to collaborate with distributors who may expand your product range, streamline your shipping processes, and introduce you to cost-effective goods.

However, it is important to thoroughly research the specific requirements and regulations applicable to trade in the countries you wish to enter. Also, consider the local currency and culture to ensure your B2B shop aligns with the requirements and expectations of the respective country.
