Migration from Magento 1 to Magento 2

For more than 10 years noder.dk has sold sheet music, musical instruments, accessories, and literature to music lovers throughout Denmark. Over time, the company has grown and MCB has been lucky enough to be part of the journey from the company's infancy.

Today the company consists of 2 legs. The physical store, Aarhus Music (located in Esbjerg), and the webshop, noder.dk. The concept is the same. It is the passion for music that drives the work.

A lot has happened since the beginning over a decade ago. The company has expanded with many new product areas that span very widely within all music genres. And that places high demands on the user-friendliness and structure of the website which must be rigorous and easy to find around for both employees and customers.

In order to live up to the expectations and the trends of the time it was obvious to upgrade the website from Magento 1 to Magento 2. This is where MCB's Magento department stepped in. And it was not the first time because the collaboration between noder.dk and MCB has fortunately existed for several years.

“I like to do things myself, but as our business has grown we have needed more and more help. And we have had the pleasure of Morten from MCB especially because he has followed us from the start. He has always had a good knowledge of our company and has been good at familiarizing himself with our industry. In general, he is good at keeping a cool head in stressful situations. And then it is nice to have an advisor who knows you and who can guide you in the right direction when new updates and functions are added.”

Close cooperation for many years

Right from the beginning MCB has been on the sidelines as a faithful lifeline when noder.dk has needed optimization and improvement.

The digital world is evolving at lightning speed with new updates and features that may need to be adopted to keep up. For most people, it is a bit of a jungle to navigate. And that is precisely why it can be decisive with a collaboration based on several years of knowledge and trust.

In any case, it has proved fruitful in the collaboration between noder.dk and MCB. When updates such as Google Analytics 4 announce their arrival which can be difficult to learn on your own, it is nice to draw on an experienced advisor who knows the company and can lead the way.

The same was true when the long-awaited update from Magento 1 to Magento 2 was launched. Although it is an update with a string of advantages it can be difficult to see how to migrate a webshop from one place to another. Nevertheless it is an important migration to make for anyone using Magento.

Why it was necessary to migrate from Magento 1 to Magento 2

Magento 2 is one of the world's leading platforms in e-commerce and the long-awaited 2nd to Magento 1. Many have been waiting in anticipation because the new update contains many advantages such as improved speed and performance, extensions and increased security. At noder.dk however it was especially Magento 2's improvement of the architectural structure that gained great importance and gave the final push for an update.

Ease of use was high on the wish list and the goal was that it should be easier and more clear for visitors to navigate around noder.dk. It was important to have a new and improved filtering option when the website contains so many products. With Magento 2 the website has an improved structure that is easy to navigate despite the many different porducts.

In addition, the switch to Magento 2 had to ensure that noder.dk stayed up to date with the latest functions for building and adjusting the many modules and add-on modules that the webshop contains.

The upgrade from Magento 1 did not only mean an update of the functionality in the backend. It also gave the obvious reason to upgrade the design and the visual expression of the website.

MCB's designers became noder.dk's extra eyes bringing new ideas and possibilities into play. And in close collaboration with noder.dk the design on the website was also given a breath of fresh air. In this way, noder.dk got both an upgrade in the backend and frontend.

There are many benefits to reap from the Magento 2 but switching can be complicated. And it is not a task that can be solved overnight. Here you can read what you need to pay attention to when you want to migrate from Magento 1 to Magento 2.

Even more optimization awaits ahead

The work with a webshop never stops. There will always be something to improve with new updates and options. In a competitive market it is crucial to stay up to date in order not to fall behind. This is also of high priority at noder.dk which always has a desire to become better.

Ahead lies work with constant improvements to the website so that noder.dk always delivers a good and problem-free user experience. First on the to do list is a major review of the website's checkout phase where every stone must be turned and polished to create good conditions from start to finish in the buying journey- And MCB is looking forward to continuing to be on the sidelines.
